Planning All Types of Effective FLES* Programs
- Assess community/school interests, needs and resources
- Organize a FLES* Advisory Committee
- Determine the resources of the school and the community
- Formulate realistic goals
- Develop a rationale for the programs
- Anticipate difficulties, problems, roadblocks, etc.
- Investigate successsful programs
- Contact knowledgeable people
- Prepare a detailed proposal for a pilot program
- Arrange for coordination and supervision
- Develop a scope and sequence and curriculum materials to fulfill the realistic goals
- Develop a plan for the recruitment and training of teachers
- Promote interest in and publicity for the program
- Involve secondary school foreign language teachers
- Select and order instructional materials for the pilot program
- Arrange realistic teaching schedules
- Begin the pilot program
- Evaluate! Evaluate! Evaluate!
- Be prepared for successes and failures
- Attempt to solve conflicts and unexpected reactions
